Text Classics Page to Picture

My Brilliant Career

Thanks to Cinema Nova, all AFI | AACTA members can book tickets at concession prices ($21) to attend the Text Classics Page to Picture: My Brilliant Career event.

On the first Wednesday of each month Cinema Nova will screen the film adaptations of five popular Australian novels, followed by a discussion of the text and movie with a carefully-selected panel. Written with all the high spirits of youth, My Brilliant Career is the unforgettable tale of Sybylla Melvin, a headstrong country girl — passionate, endearing, stubborn, honest — and her fraught journey from rags to riches to rags. The 1979 film stars Judy Davis, Sam Neill, Julia Blake and Wendy Hughes.

But it turned out to be difficult to divide the money by four. Jackpot is an exciting, playful and bloody comedy from the producer of Cold Prey, based on a story by Norway's leading crime writer Jo Nesbo.

Le Havre

The Russian Resurrection Film Festival will run from 30 August until 26 September 2012, screening in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Canberra.

The festival pays homage to its authentic Russian roots through the magic of movies and festive opening night parties. Every year high profile Russian directors and actors travel to Australia as guests of the festival, promoting cultural exchange and strengthening the relationship between Russia and Australia.

This year's program will include a variety of new dramas, animations, comedies, arthouse cinema, award winning classics and possibly Russia's first ever Zombie Film.

His Girl Friday (Play)
