The Samsung Mobile AFI Award for Screen Content Innovation recognises excellence in the employment of interactive media and new media tools to either extend traditional narrative formats, or develop new formats, and in so doing create more rewarding and engaging audience experiences.
This Award carries a cash prize of $20,000, subject to certain terms and conditions.
In order to be eligible for the Samsung Mobile AFI Award for Screen Content Innovation, a program must be:
- be an Australian production
- have been first made available to the Australian audience between July 1 2009 – April 27 2010
- be designed exclusively for mobile technologies, the world-wide web, or be interactive components of drama, comedy, factual or a light entertainment program or series, feature film or documentary;
- include user interaction that goes beyond traditional playback options
(e.g. play, stop, pause, rewind, fast-forward)
The following categories of a program are ineligible for entry in the Samsung Mobile AFI Award for Screen Content Innovation category:
- digital media projects or content in the areas of corporate communications, training or e-commerce;
- one-off multi-screen or site-specific installations;
- performances intended solely for exhibition, or the visual documentation of such works.
- projects conceived primarily as ancillary marketing or promotional additions to existing non-interactive films or programs, for example, promotional or companion websites, unless those websites contain a material extension to the narrative of the existing work or contain a unique and separate narrative to the existing work.
Any production entered into the AFI Awards for a previous year is ineligible.
